Our new normal is finally coming

Kia ora tatou,

The latest Government announcement has signalled that Aucklanders can expect more freedoms once we have transitioned to the new COVID-19 Protection Framework which the Prime Minister has indicated is expected to be in place on Friday 3rd December. Hopefully, the end of the current restrictions, which see many businesses still unable to operate viably, will have come in time to prevent any more business closures and job losses.

Like many other businesses, our local eateries and hospitality venues have been badly affected by the lockdowns, particularly this latest one, so I would encourage you to please give them your much needed support whenever you can, as some normality returns.

Key to the successful and hopefully uninterrupted operation of many businesses under the new traffic light system will be the use of vaccination certificates. I would encourage any members who intend to use this system, to complete their preparations as soon as possible so that they can enjoy the benefits of operating at greater capacity from the earliest opportunity. Business North Harbour is in the process of developing a vaccination policy which may include the use of vaccination certificates for all in-person events and visitors to the BNH offices. We will share this information with members once the policy has been finalised.

Today's YOUR news e-newsletter provides an extensive amount of COVID-19 support information and I do urge you to take some time to familiarise yourself with this as we approach the upcoming changes to our protection framework.

The Team at BNH wish you all well and look forward to seeing many of you at our annual ONE DAY SALE on Saturday 4th December. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us if we can be of any assistance.

Ngā mihi mahana,

Kevin O'Leary
General Manager, Business North Harbour

Advice for businesses if you have someone with COVID at your premises

As COVID-19 becomes more prevalent in the community, businesses will need to prepare for the chance of an infected person visiting your business, as well as take action to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading further. You may also be listed as a Location of Interest on the Ministry of Health website. Auckland Regional Public Health have prepared a handy guide here for businesses to help you prepare which includes:

1. A readiness guide to keeping all those that use your site safe
2. A description of the contact tracing process
3. Tables for listing close contacts according to different spaces and interactions
4. A letter template for you to send out explaining the level of risk

Vanushi Walters MP for Upper Harbour Business Support Update

Vanushi Waters, Local MP for Upper Harbour shared a business support update with BNH on Monday 22nd November with the following key excerpts being of interest to members on some of the important differences for businesses now that we are in Alert Level Three Step Two.

Generally, there are five golden rules for all retail stores:

• Limiting customer numbers so everyone can safely stay two metres apart
• Asking customers to stay home if they are unwell
• Reminding customers to scan in using the NZ COVID Tracer app every time they enter a store
• Offering contactless options for payment, pickup and delivery
• Providing hand sanitiser for people to use, and regularly cleaning and disinfecting shared surfaces

In Step Two, hospitality venues such as cafes, bars, restaurants and takeaway stores must remain contactless. These businesses can only offer contactless pick-up, delivery or drive through options. For businesses that still cannot reopen, applications for the increased Resurgence Support Payment are available. Businesses can receive $3,000 per business plus $800 per full-time employee (FTE), up to 50 FTE with the maximum fortnightly payment being $43,000. For those who are self-employed or a sole trader, payments of $3,800 are available. The application for this can be found here.

For businesses that employ 50 or fewer staff, there is the Small Business Cashflow Scheme (SBCS) which was introduced to support small to medium businesses and organisations struggling with a loss of actual revenue due to COVID-19. This is a one-off 5 year loan. Businesses can borrow a maximum of $10,000 plus $1,800 per full-time-equivalent employee within your business. The application, eligibility criteria and other key details about this scheme can be found here.

In terms of the grants available to support your business such as Business Advice, the Implementation Grant and Health & Wellbeing Support, these are facilitated through Auckland Unlimited and you can find more details at ActivateTamakiMakaurau. Applications can be submitted from the 1st December.

In Auckland, we’ll initially move into the Red setting of the new framework. When that happens, you’ll need proof of vaccination to do many of the things you love – like going out to bars and restaurants, getting a haircut, or working out at the gym. I don’t want anyone in Upper Harbour to miss out, so I strongly encourage those of you who haven’t yet been vaccinated to take that step now. Once you’re fully vaccinated, you’ll need to visit mycovidrecord.health.nz and request your Vaccine Pass. You can also do this by calling 0800 222 478.

BNH Women in Leadership Mentoring Programme an Outstanding Success!

During the past year BNH, in partnership with Massey University Albany, piloted a Women In Leadership Mentoring Programme, where fifteen of our female business leaders mentored fifteen other women in a variety of topics related to business leadership. The programme proved to be a great success with Mentors and Mentees alike reporting a wide range of personal benefits.

Following the success of the pilot programme, BNH will be offering two similar opportunities next year, once again in partnership with Massey University Albany. The Leadership and Business Mentoring Programme will be made available to members with a same-gender or mixed-gender option. Full details of these exciting opportunities will be available in the next YOUR news e-newsletter on Wednesday 8th December.
