Auckland lockdown extension

Kia ora,

Whilst it probably didn’t come as a surprise given the extent of the current Covid outbreak, the two-week extension of Alert Level 4 announced by the Prime Minister poses a significant challenge for many members.

Business North Harbour (BNH) will continue to provide as much up-to-date information as possible to enable members to access any Government support available. We will also continue to share links to other non-financial support such as helplines or business advice opportunities, whenever they become available to us.

Additionally, BNH is actively lobbying Government Ministers and local MPs, in collaboration with most of the other Business Improvement Districts in Auckland, asking the Government to increase financial support for businesses and asking them to take action on labour shortages and supply chain issues, all of which are having a detrimental effect on many members.

I hope that the reduction in Alert Levels isn’t delayed beyond the current time frame, allowing businesses to start their recovery as soon as possible. In the meantime, the BNH Team wish you all well and ask that you please reach out to us should you require any other support.

Kia Kaha.

Kevin O'Leary
General Manager, Business North Harbour

Business travel across Alert Level boundaries

Movement between alert level boundaries will be restricted and there will be Police check points to stop unnecessary travel. New Zealanders should continue to ensure their movement is for essential purposes only. An Alert Level boundary separates areas of New Zealand that are at different Alert Levels.

Businesses need to provide their staff with proof of eligibility to travel across an Alert Level boundary, such as the documentation generated by MBIE’s Business Travel Register. Click here for information on the process of applying for your Business Travel Documents.

Harbour Hospice Compassionate Touch Programme

Hospice will shortly launch a new volunteer programme that will allow them to support and connect with more patients in the community and in our Inpatient Units through hand and foot massage. Harbour Hospice currently employs two part-time massage therapists who struggle to keep up with the demand for the service from their patients and carers. Harbour Hospice have been aware of very successful massage programmes delivered by volunteers at other Hospices throughout New Zealand and will shortly add this very beneficial service to their range of volunteer services.

The initial costs are about $2,000 and Harbour Hospice would like to grow the programme. Please do reach out if you can support or if you are interested in wanting a longer term relationship. Harbour Hospice supports patients and families of those who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In the year to June 2021, Harbour Hospice supported 1,298 patients aged 15-104. Read more here and visit the Harbour Hospice website here.
